Dress for Success:
Belinda speaks of how being dressed for success can result in Creative Bookings.
The easiest bookings (for me) to get are those who book a workshop from attending
a workshop. We are already on the same wavelength. They have
attended a workshop and want to host one of their own. Creative bookings
are acquired outside of this circle and are a great way to grow your business.
How can you get someone who has never attended one of your workshops to host
one? One way is by being dressed for success. You don't have
to "dress-up" all the time, but you do need to be dressed nice and appropriate
for the occasion. This is a key point for me. Most of my "occasions"
are centered around raising my children, helping in their classrooms, leading
Girls Scout meetings, etc. I am not comfortable and it would
not be practical for me to do these things wearing a suit or a skirt.
But I can stick a pin on any top I am wearing! The number one
item that a total stranger will readily compliment you on is jewelry.
Wear a pin and people will comment on it. When they comment on it,
a conversation has begun! I wear stamped t-shirts all the time, but
this never generated conversation except at workshops. Outside of a workshop,
others have no concept that my works of art could be hand-stamped.
Hand-stamped pins don't generate much response either. But, once you
sell your first $1000 you receive a nice Stampin' Up! logo pin from Stampin'
Up! The nice thing about this pin is that it is subtle yet stylish.
It has the logo so if someone knows Stampin' Up!, they can comment and if
they don't, they can ask, "What is Stampin' Up!?" or "Where did you get that
pin?" And there you go, fire off your 30 second commercial and you
are on your way to a new customer, new hostess, or new demonstrator!!!
Now, I am not a jewelry kind of person so wearing a pin is a stretch for
me. But here is my experience that validates what Belinda says about
being dressed for success. I have this favorite sweatshirt I always
wear in the cooler weather (which for us is about October through May).
It is warm, it fits just right, there are no drafts, and it is sooo comfortable,
you know, that favorite sweatshirt! I earned it participating
in the "Walk for Diabetes" fundraiser I attended with my daughter, Samantha.
There is a "Walk for Diabetes" logo embroidered on the shirt. I get
more comments and questions about Diabetes when I wear this sweatshirt.
It is like a flashing billboard saying "Ask me about Diabetes" and yet it
is just a simple embroidered logo. As I received more and more comments
about this sweatshirt, I realized I need a flashing billboard saying "Ask
me about Stampin' Up!". I have one, it is the Stampin' Up! logo pin.
There is Stampin' Up! logo merchandise available from the Logo Place on the
Stampin' Up! website (Business Tools/Logo Place). There is a simple
baseball cap for those sunny days! The clothing is on display and available
for you to try on at the annual Stampin' Up! convention. There is also
free SU! logo clothing in the Great Rewards section of the SU! website.
I have a new favorite sweatshirt on its way to me with a Stampin' Up! logo!
Not sweatshirt weather, I can always pin on my free Stampin' Up! logo
pin!
